History Department
Profile

History is a highly successful and popular subject across the College. Students are taught by three specialist teachers in two specialist Humanities rooms situated in the new block of the College.

All Key Stage Three students follow History in line with the National Curriculum and are regularly assessed in line with National Curriculum levels. Students are encouraged to take responsibilty for monitoring their own assessment and levels of achievement.
History is an optional subject in Key Stage Four. Over half the year group regularly choose to pursue History to GCSE level and many students aim to achieve the highest possible grades.

We believe that the study of the past enables students to understand the world in which they live. History is a highly challenging, stimulating and fun subject in which students are stretched to reach their academic potential. Lessons are structured to be challenging but enjoyable for all abilities.

Students are given the opportunity to enrich their understanding of History through a range of off-site learning activities, such as visits to Canterbury Cathedral and the Canterbury Tales, Windsor Castle and the Imperial War Museum.
We are committed to ensuring that 'Gifted and Talented' students reach their full potential by allowing them to determine their own learning within an extra-curricular club. Students have engaged with counter-factual or 'what if?' History and planned a lesson on the 'Black Death' which they will teach to a year seven group.
