Profile

All students at Robertsbridge have discrete R.E. lessons once a week. The main aims of the department are : to develop our pupils’ knowledge and understanding of religious beliefs and practices; to engender respect and understanding for the beliefs and values of other religions; to encourage respect of different ways of life and cultures and to promote understanding of the interdependence between people and the environment.

Courses

In Year 7, pupils study the nature of Religion and Belief, Creation Stories, Festivals, Symbolism and Community; in Year 8, pupils study Palestine at the time of Jesus, the life of Jesus, the spread of Christianity and Islam. In year 9, pupils produce a project on a religion of their own choice and study Hinduism, the Concept of God and Suffering. At KS4, they follow 5 units of study – Sikhism, work of Charities, a Person of Faith, Peace and Conflict and Prejudice. At GCSE, Christianity and Buddhism are studied.

News

Currently, Year 10 GCSE students are in the process of producing coursework. They will be starting a piece on Buddhism - shrine offerings. The second piece of Buddhism coursework will be on the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path.
