Maths Department
Profile

Maths teachers at Robertsbridge love doing Mathematics and love teaching Mathematics! It is our aim to inspire students to enjoy the subject and to see how its study can lead to deep insights, a feeling of success and ultimately a fruitful career.

Examination success is important to us as borne out by our G.C.S.E. and S.A.T. results. Most importantly though, students enjoy learning new Mathematics and they carry this far beyond school. Several of our students have gone on to study Mathematics at top Universities, and some have even trained as Maths teachers.

Courses

In Key Stage 3 all students follow challenging and differentiated schemes of work which follow the University of Plymouth's innovative Mathematics Enhancement Programme found on their website

Assessments are carried out at regular intervals and all students receive a National Curriculum level at the end of each academic year. At the end of Key Stage 3 all students are formally assessed via the SATs tests.
The Department consistently exceeds National benchmarks and is currently in the top 5% of comparable schools in the UK across Key Stage 3.

In Key Stage 4 students follow the two year GCSE course. The final assessment of the course consists of two formal exam papers and two pieces of coursework. The exam content represents 80% of their awarded grade.

From September 2006 a small group of students will be involved in the Foundation Certificate in Personal Finance run by the Institute of Financial Services.
Maths results at GCSE level have been consistently above the National average and in 2005 over 70% of the students achieved grade C or above.
