ICT Department
Profile

ICT is delivered both discretely and across the curriculum to enhance learning in all curriculum areas. Our aim is to ensure that all Robertsbridge students are developing their capability in this dynamic subject. Students not only develop their practical skills but are encouraged to investigate the social, legal and ethical implications of the use of ICT in the world around us.

In years 7 and 8 all students follow the National Strategy for ICT and at Key Stage 4 students complete a functional skills course at level 2. From Year 9 students can opt to study for the OCR Nationals Level 2 in ICT suite of qualifications.

All computers in the school are fully networked, with a number of wired and wireless network points. The ICT department has 2 dedicated ICT rooms with 25 computers in each and are equipped with laser printers, scanners, digital cameras and video cameras. All computers run the Microsoft Office suite, along with other subject specific software such as Serif Draw Plus, Dreamweaver, Fireworks and many more.

Key Stage 3

All students in KS3 follow a programme of study based on the National Framework for ICT. This is a progressive system to allow students to build on their attainment in a structured manner. Their work is assessed using the National Curriculum Attainment levels (NC level).

Key Stage 4

OCR Nationals

ICT Diploma
The IT Diploma is a new qualification that combines theoretical study with practical experience and is part of the 14-19 Reform Programme being rolled out nationally over the next five years. Robertsbridge is one of the first schools to offer the Diploma as part of the pilot programme from September 2008. The higher diploma that we are offering is equivalent to 7 GCSEs A* - C. Diploma students will acquire the skills and knowledge, which are essential for success in employment and higher education, both related to IT and those which are common, like teamwork, self-management and critical thinking skills

Functional Skills

Functional skills have been designed to provide students with the practical ability to use ICT in everyday life and at work. The qualifications reflect the practical knowledge and skills needed at work. It requires learners to be able to use technology in ways that make them effective and involved as citizens and able to operate confidently in life and work in a wide range of contexts. Students will sit a written paper and complete a practical task.

A Taste of Success
100% of our students who opted to take the OCR Nationals First Award in ICT achieved at least a Pass (grade C equivalent). Well done to the students and thank you to Mrs Seale for keeping them "on task"!

Drusillas
Another visit to Drusillas for our students will take place in September

Hastings College
Recently a group of IT Diploma students visited Hastings College to learn how to network computers together. We had a fun afternoon with cables & wizards to create a working network. Some troubleshooting skills were required. Thanks to Mat Brown at the College for his expert tuition and the use of the facilities.
