Arts : Music Department
Profile

Our aim is to enable all students to reach their fullest potential in the visual and performing Arts. We are constantly revising our curriculum to ensure that our students achieve outcomes which reflect their ability and challenge them further.

Music is a powerful, unique form of communication that can change the way students feel, think and act. As an integral part of culture, past and present, it helps pupils understand themselves and relate to others, making connections between home, school and the wider world. Our Music Department makes a vital contribution not only to the Arts curriculum but also to the life of the school. As well as performing in the school singing group and various ensembles, many of our students play in their own bands and they are able to use the practise rooms and facilities for rehearsals.

At Robertsbridge students have the additional opportunity to learn an instrument with the East Sussex Music Service.

Music is a National Curriculum Foundation subject and is taught to all students in Years 7 and 8. Students learn and develop three core skills: Listening, Performing, and Composing. Students develop performing and composing skills on the keyboard both individually and in groups.

Music is an optional subject in Year9, 10 and 11. This year sees a dramatic increase in the number of students opting for Music at GCSE. Investment in Music Technology and the addition of another Music teacher has had a huge impact on the profile of the Music Department in the school.
