Arts : Drama Department
Profile

Our aim is to enable all students to reach their fullest potential in the visual and performing Arts. We are constantly revising our curriculum to ensure that our students achieve outcomes which reflect their ability and challenge them further.

Drama and Theatre Arts at Robertsbridge Community College is a lively and popular subject, both within the curriculum and as an extra-curricular activity. It builds successful relationships, raises confidence levels and improves skills needed in all subject areas.

This Year sees a new subject added to our curriculum - Expressive Arts has been devised to allow collaborative projects between the Arts subjects. We will be taking students out into the community to perform and take part in local events.

Drama Club is a very popular extra-curricular activity and helps offer talented students the opportunity to enhance their skills. We aim to have one major production every year, in which the entire Faculty collaborate.

Drama at Key Stage 3 is taught in mixed ability groups. The curriculum is accesible to all, enabling every student to achieve; encouraging creativity, social skills and boosting self-esteem.

In Year 7 the main aims are to develop confidence, cooperation and begin to work on basic drama skills. In Year 8 the basic skills are developed and technical and design skills are introduced. Emphasis is on performance and work is evaluated when it is presented and later with the use of the department's DVD camcorder.

The GCSE Drama and Theatre Arts course focuses on creating, performing and evaluating during the course, and studying the work of other performers and playwrights for the written exam. The weighting is 60% coursework, 40% written exam. During the course practical work will include improvisation, devised work, scripted performance and various design skills, such as stage lighting, make up and costume.

Look out for the annual Murder Mystery night in which the audience attempts to solve the mystery over dinner whilst interviewing our suspects - the Year 11 Drama students!
