The curriculum
The National Curriculum for Design and Technology is taught throughout Key Stage 3. Food Technology, Textiles, Graphics and Resistant Materials are the four technologies that students experience and these are taught on a rotational system during each year. All students in Key Stage 3 study each technology for approximately 14 weeks in each of the two years. In Design Technology there is an emphasis on practical activity supported by well presented preparation and planning.
In Key Stage 4 we teach a range of Technology subjects. Our subjects are becoming increasingly popular and recently we have had great success in the GCSE exams, our A-C grades largely above the national average. This year, for years 9, 10 and 11 we are running GCSE Textiles, Food Technology, Graphic Products, Resistant Materials, Child Development and a new one year course in Jewellery Making
We are planning a programme of extra curricular activities this Autumn. There will be opportunities for older students to catch up with coursework and receive extra guidance in our after school workshops. There will be lunchtime sessions and a new after-school DT workshop for students in Years 7 and 8. Students should ask their Technology teacher for days and times.
